In an X post on Wednesday, Pence congratulated Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance (R-Ohio). He also commended Republicans in the U.S. House and Senate that won their elections on Tuesday.
“The American people have spoken and Karen and I send our sincere congratulations to President-Elect Donald Trump and his family on his election as 47th President of the United States. We also send our congratulations to Vice President-Elect J.D. Vance and his family on his election as Vice President of the United States,” he said.
“We extend our congratulations as well to the newly elected members of the Republican majorities in the United States Senate and the House of Representatives and look forward to their efforts to renew American security, prosperity and a respect for life,” Pence continued.
“We will continue to pray for all those in authority and urge every American to join us in praying for our incoming President, Vice President and elected officials at every level,” Pence wrote in the post.
The post from Pence, who was governor of Indiana from 2013 to 2016, comes after the former disgruntled vice president criticized Trump during the 2024 election cycle. Pence had said could not “in good conscience” support Trump’s re-election bid.
The split between Pence and Trump began in 2021 when Pence refused to block the certification of the 2020 presidential election results during the January 6th Capitol demonstration, which Pence said he did not have the authority to do.
Pence sought the Republican nomination this election cycle but was ultimately outpaced by Trump in the race.
