UPDATE 4:15 PM: A spokesperson for the Security Ministry of Buenos Aires municipality, Pablo Policicchio, stated that singer Liam Payne “had thrown himself from the balcony of his room.”

Policicchio said that authorities had gotten a call from the hotel about an “aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.” When they arrived, they found his body in the hotel courtyard.
Head of the State Emergency Medical System Alberto Crescenti stated on Argentina’s Todo Noticias TV channel that an autopsy and an investigation into his death’s circumstances are being carried out by the authorities. He refused to comment further on the incident, including answering whether Payne fell accidentally or leaped from the balcony.
3:19 PM – A former One Direction member has died outside of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31-years-old.
On Wednesday, authorities were called to CasaSur Palermo Hotel, where Payne allegedly fell from the third floor balcony. Details whether it was intentional or an accident are not yet known yet.
Payne had been in Argentina since earlier this month for his former One Direction bandmate, Niall Horan’s concert.
Payne had been under fire after reports surfaced earlier this week claiming that Liam’s ex-fiancé, Maya Henry, had left him after he asked her to have an abortion. Her lawyers sent Payne a cease and desist letter to have him stop contacting Henry.
An investigation is currently ongoing. More details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
