“In light of this weekend’s events, the president has directed me to work with the Secret Service to provide protection to Robert Kennedy Jr.,” Alejandro Mayorkas, the secretary of Homeland Security, announced during Monday’s White House press briefing.
Donald Trump calls for Secret Service protection for Independent Presidential Candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., especially after this weekend’s assassination attempt, which almost took the former president’s life.
Trump posted on Truth Social, demanding protection for Kennedy Jr. following the Pennsylvania rally incident.
“In light of what is going on in the world today, I believe it is imperative that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. received Secret Service protection — immediately,” the 78-year-old former president wrote on Truth Social. “Given the history of the Kennedy Family, this is the obvious right thing to do!”
Last year, Kennedy had announced that his request for secret service had been denied, which shocked many, as his political family has a history of assassinations.
Additionally, on Sunday, Representative Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) and Representative Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.) stated that they plan to introduce a bill that would provide “enhanced Secret Service protection” for President Joe Biden, Trump, and Kennedy Jr.
