“We are in the presence of a really mythical character. I love mythology, and this individual does not exist on this planet,” Stallone said. “Nobody in the world could’ve pulled off what he pulled off. So, I’m in awe.”
The “Rocky” actor was the final speaker of the night, talking on stage for around two minutes, before the incoming 47th president took center stage at Mar-a-Lago.
At the beginning of his speech, Stallone discussed his famous “Rocky” character and how, in the films, he was “going to go through a metamorphosis and change lives, just like President Trump.”
Stallone continued comparing Trump to the first U.S. president, while highlighting how Washington’s dedication to America went on to change the world.
“When George Washington defended his country, he had no idea that he was going to change the world because without him, you could imagine what the world would look like. Guess what? We’ve got the second George Washington. Congratulations!” Stallone said before Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.” began playing.
After a brief pause, the 47th president-elect himself walked onto the stage, smiled, and shook Stallone’s hand while saying a few words to the actor.
Stallone has been typically known for staying quiet about his personal politics over the years, and he even admitted to not voting in the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections. However, but he did admit to Variety Magazine in 2016 that he “loved” Trump.
“I love Donald Trump,” he said at the time. “There are certain people like Arnold [Schwarzenegger], Babe Ruth, that are bigger than life. But I don’t know how that translates to running the world.”
Furthermore, Stallone did not publicly endorse him before the 2024 election took place, but he did answer a FaceTime call from Fox News‘ Brett Baier in October and encouraged Pennsylvania voters to “keep punching.”
Stallone’s speech at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday marks the first time he has gone public regarding his thoughts of a Trump presidency.
