Vice President Kamala Harris, the 2024 Democrat nominee, articulated her stance on Second Amendment issues during a town hall with Oprah Winfrey on Thursday evening in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

Winfrey highlighted Harris’s previous admission that she allegedly owns a pistol during her debate with former President Donald Trump on September 10th during a conversation about firearms.

“I did not know that,” Winfrey said in astonishment, prompting laughter from the in-studio audience at the event “Unite for America.”

“If somebody breaks into my house, they’re getting shot,” Harris asserted while cackling. However, after the Democrat nominee noticed a slightly concerned expression on Oprah’s face, she added, “I probably should not have said that… my staff will deal with that later,” continuing to cackle.

Meanwhile, the 2024 Trump Campaign’s official X (Twitter) account commented on Harris’s recent remarks to Oprah.

“Can Kamala describe the make and model of the gun she allegedly owns?” the Trump War Room posted. “And explain why she spent years advocating for door-to-door, mandatory gun confiscation? This is called pandering — and nobody is buying the bulls***.”

Harris has been attempting to strike a balance between pleasing her party by advocating for anti-gun policies in the U.S. while simultaneously trying to avoid upsetting Second Amendment supporters who own firearms for safety and hunting reasons.

“In our country today, one in five people has lost a family member to gun violence. Across our nation, every day, about 120 Americans are killed by a gun. And while this violence impacts all communities, it does not do so equally. Black Americans are 10 times more likely to be victims of gun violence and homicide.  Latino Americans, twice as likely. And as a former courtroom prosecutor, I will tell you, I have personally prosecuted homicide cases.  I have seen with my own eyes what a bull….bullet does to the human body,” Harris said in a briefing on September 22nd, 2023.

Fast forward to now, in response to the topic of school shootings and gun violence on the program, Harris vaguely noted, “We just need to apply common sense.”

“I think for far too long on the issue of gun violence, some people have been pushing a really false choice to suggest you’re either in favor of the Second Amendment or you want to take everyone’s guns away,” Harris stated. “I’m in favor of the Second Amendment, and I’m in favor of assault weapons bans, universal background checks, [and] red flag laws.”

Additionally, at the Oprah Winfrey live event, a Georgia school shooting survivor spoke for a portion of the Thursday night gathering while Harris watched on. Natalie Griffith, the survivor, was shot twice during the September 4th, 2024, Apalachee High School shooting, which resulted in four fatalities.

Oprah also took advantage of the occasion to continue condemning firearms.

“This is not normal, y’all, and this is not right. We as Americans have to do better,” Winfrey said after the gun portion of the event. “Lives are being destroyed.”
