On Thursday, Department of Defense (DOD) spokeswoman Sabrina Singh announced that Secretary Lloyd Austin approved the additional aid. It will include an increased number of National Guardsmen.

The additional troops are expected to bolster explosives and chemical weapons detection, as well as providing additional military dog and helicopter resources.

Singh said the extra protections will remain through inauguration day for whoever wins.

“The Department of Defense will provide protective support and will continue, and that will continue through the election on November 5th, 2024, with anticipated continued support to the president elect and Vice President elect through the inauguration of January 20th, 2025,” Singh said.

Security concerns have been on the forefront of Americans minds ever since the assassination attempt against President Donald Trump and a foiled assassination plot against him from Iranian nationals.

The intelligence community has been sounding the alarm on security threats posed by foreign adversaries ahead of Election Day.
