Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, who is known for being opinionated on political matters, highlighted his own Catholic beliefs in regards to the topic of abortion, which prompted both praise and backlash for the second time.

Butker called on former President Donald Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, to “defend the unborn.”
On Friday, the 45th president made a post on Truth Social, saying, “My administration will be great for women and their reproductive rights.”
Butker responded on X (Twitter), calling on Vance to bring the Republican Party “back in line.”
“No party or candidate is perfect,” Butker’s opening statement starts.
“I implore my fellow Catholic @JDVance to help bring the Republican Party back in line with the foundational platform that all life is valuable and there can be no compromise when it comes to defending the unborn.”
Butker then quoted a Catholic priest, Father Chad Ripperger, saying: “Our obligation is to vote for the lesser of two evils because voting for a lesser evil preserves the good that could be potentially lost.”
At the time of the Chiefs White House visit last year, the kicker was also seen wearing a tie that displayed the words “Vulnerari Praesidio” in cursive writing, which is a Latin term that translates to “Protect the most vulnerable.”
Butker also wore a gold pin representing the size of a 10-week-old baby’s feet.
The football star made headlines previously in May for criticizing President Joe Biden’s “delusional” stance on abortion during his commencement speech at Benedictine College in May.
“[Biden] has been so vocal in his support for the murder of innocent babies that I’m sure to many people it appears that you can be both Catholic and pro-choice,” he said.
Additionally, the Chiefs kicker said in an interview with ETWN News in March that unborn babies “are the greatest victims of our society.”
