A Stephen Colbert interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” took an unexpected turn after the audience unexpectedly laughed at Colbert’s description of CNN as “objective.”

“I know you guys are objective over there, that you just report the news as it is,” Colbert stated, which prompted the audience to burst into laughter.

The automatic response was especially surprising, as Colbert’s audience and his program overall tends to be much more left-leaning politically, seemingly attracting audience members who would see eye-to-eye with his politics.

After the laughter ensued, Collins asked in response: “is that supposed to be a laugh line?”

To which Colbert begrudgingly responded: “It wasn’t supposed to be, but I guess it is,”

The two went on to discuss Collins’ time as a White House correspondent and the changing dynamic in the presidential race, since Harris has now taken over as the 2024 Democrat nominee.

Additionally, she spoke about the time that she was in an uber in Brooklyn, New York, when she got the news regarding Biden dropping out of the race, which prompted her to allegedly have an impromptu phone call with former President Donald Trump regarding his thoughts on Biden’s decision.

“He is the worst president in the history of our country. He goes down as the single worst president by far in the history of our country,” Trump said in the phone call with Collins.

Collins stated she went on to “press” Trump on what Biden dropping out means for his campaign, which she reported on CNN, “he told me that he believes that Vice President Harris will be easier to beat than Joe Biden would have been.”
