Elon Musk hosted a Space on X with President Donald Trump just hours after Trump’s @realDonaldTrump account made it’s much anticipated return to the platform. Labeled by Musk as “a conversation” rather than an interview, the livestream hosted nearly 1.3 million listeners at its peak and ran just over two hours long.

The start time was delayed due to what Musk said “appears to be a massive DDOS attack on X.” DDOS stands for “Distributed Denial-of-Service,” which happens when a cyber attack successfully floods a website with fake web traffic in order to disrupt the servers. Musk’s team was able to fix the issue and get the livestream started about 40 minutes late.
The broad conversation began with Musk asking about the July assassination attempt, with Trump describing the experience in intimate detail and stating his intention to return to Butler, PA in October for a follow-up rally. They also dove deep into illegal immigration, Trump’s dealings with foreign leaders, and energy policy. Trump praised Musk’s Tesla electric vehicles and said he would “love” it if Musk joined a hypothetical “government efficiency commission” if Trump wins a second term in November.
The duo also criticized Vice President Kamala Harris and the mainstream media’s scant efforts to critically interview her. Musk goes on to describe Vice President Harris’s behavior as “far-left” and claims “We’re seeing just an overnight propaganda attempt to rewrite history and make it sound like Kamala’s moderate when she, in fact, is not moderate,” Musk said to Trump.
Musk publicly endorsed Trump for President on July 13th, just shortly after the assassination attempt earlier that day.
According to a post by the official X account, “Between 7:47 PM and 10:47 PM ET, President Donald Trump’s Space post received 73 million views. During the same period, there were 4 million posts about Elon Musk and President Trump’s conversation on , generating a total of 998 million views.”
A photo posted to X by Margo Martin, Deputy Communications Director for the Trump campaign, appeared to show President Trump at Mar-a-Lago leaning over a table speaking into an iPhone that was logged into the Space.
Musk has offered Vice President Harris an opportunity to appear on an X Space with him. The Harris camp has yet to respond to Musk’s invitation.
