Former President Donald Trump has reacted to Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate decision, saying it was a “shocking pick.”

On Wednesday, Trump said in an interview on Fox News’ “Fox and Friends” that he could not believe that Tim Walz (D-Minn.) had been picked as Harris’ running mate

“I would say my reaction is, I can’t believe it. I never thought I was going to be the one who was picked,” Trump said.

“He’s a very liberal man, and he’s a shocking pick,” the former president added. “I could not be more thrilled.”

He continued stating that he believed that Walz was a “smarter version” of Harris and “about the same as Bernie Sanders.”

Trump also spoke about how Walz was weak on immigration and how he is “very heavy into transgender.”

The comment comes as Walz has signed legislation in Minnesota allowing access to sex change surgeries.

Walz has faced criticism from some Republicans for being slow to activate the National Guard to stop riots in Minnesota after the 2020 death of George Floyd.

“He’s very heavy into transgender, anything transgender, he thinks is great, and he’s not where the country is on anything,” Trump said.

Trump also stated that he felt like Governor Josh Shapiro (D-Pa.) would have been a stronger choice.

“I’m no big fan of Josh Shapiro. I know the state very well … but I would have said it would have been a better choice,” the former president said.

On Tuesday, Harris announced Walz as her running mate after much speculation as to whom she would choose from the Democrat contender lineup.
