The Louisville Metro Police Department said the detective who arrested pro-golfer Scottie Scheffler has been disciplined for not turning on his body camera.

LMPD released footage of Scheffler’s May 17th arrest on Thursday.

The 27-year-old Texan was detained outside of the Valhalla Golf Club while arriving for the second round of the PGA Championship.

A heavy police presence was already at the front gate after a shuttle bus struck and killed a pedestrian.

Scheffler drove around the crash, allegedly failing to follow police orders as he tried to enter the course.

According to a report of the incident, Detective Bryan Gillis was hospitalized after he “suffered pain, swelling and abrasions to his left wrist and knee.”

The two-time Masters champion was charged with felony assault of a police officer.

“My situation will get handled. It was a chaotic situation and a big misunderstanding,” Scheffler said following the incident.

There’s no footage, however, of the initial interaction between Scheffler and Detective Gillis.

“Detective Gillis should have turned on his body-worn camera but did not,” said LMPD Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel. “Detective Gillis did not have his body-worn camera operationally ready as required by our policy.”

Detective Gillis was counseled by his supervisor and given corrective action for the “policy violation.”

According to CNN on Thursday, some Louisville police officers found Scheffler’s charges to be “excessive.”

Scheffler is set to appear for an arraignment hearing on June 3rd.
