On Wednesday morning, eyewitnesses reported several hazmat trucks outside the building near the Capitol at around 8 a.m.

According to reports, the substance was cleared, but the area around the building remained cordoned off, resulting in road closures on nearby streets.

The Capitol South Metro Station was also affected, according to metro transit police.

Shortly after 9:00 a.m. local time, the all-clear was issued. A suspicious package containing two blood vials, a Korean Bible, and two ice packs was found, according to a police source that CNN quoted.

The building was scheduled to host a House Republicans meeting when the lockdown notice was issued. It is not clear if Congress members were present when the incident was reported.

It is not clear who was being held by the police in relation to the incident.
