An Illinois mayor, dubbed ‘America’s worst mayor’, has vetoed hiring Lori Lightfoot to investigate her finances.

Dolton, Illinois mayor Tiffany Henyard (D-Ill.) vetoed the investigation during a fiery board meeting on Monday. She is accused of mishandling funds, wrongful termination, and concealing the sexual assault of a former employee.
At one point during the meeting, Henyard was even in a screaming match with one of the board members. People from the audience joined in as well.
Several community members were once again locked out of the meeting due to lack of seats but made sure to call for Henyards resignation from outside.
This was the first meeting since the board of trustees voted to hire Lightfoot (D-Ill.).
Henyard said the board overstepped its authority.
“You know it’s veto power,” Henyard said. “So how dare you think you can come in someone’s town and start working or doing something, even though we said something, stating it’s illegal, we cited the code and everything in here, and she will not be paid for services.”.
Trustees are expected to attempt to override Henyards veto at the next board meeting. It is set for later this month.
