On Wednesday, Newsom (D-Calif.) announced that along with legislative leaders, he will be advancing a law that would allow healthcare providers in Arizona to provide reproductive care to patients fleeing the state to California.

Newsom said last year, 160,000 women across the country had to leave their states to seek reproductive care in the Golden State.

“Arizona Republicans continue to put women in danger—embracing a draconian law passed when Arizona was a territory, not even a state,” Newsom said. “California will not sit idly by.”

“Our Arizona sisters can come to California to get the health care that they need, from their own doctors who they rely on, and Arizona doctors can come to California without fear of spending two to five years in prison,” Senator Nancy Skinner (D-Calif.) said Wednesday.

Newsom called on the legislature to get the bill to his desk as quickly as possible.
