The shooting occurred on Wednesday outside of Union Station. Officials have ruled out any sort of domestic terrorism and believe that it resulted out of a personal dispute between individuals in the area, rather than a planned attack.

Three people, including two juveniles, have now been detained by police.

Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves announced that the department has yet to charge anyone involved in the incident.

“We have not charged them yet; this is still under investigation,” Graves said. “We do have 24 hours until we have to either file charges or release them. We are working closely with the Jackson County prosecutor’s office to present the most successful case for prosecution.”

Specialists from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are currently analyzing bullets recovered from the crime scene.

Additionally, ATF investigators are examining the guns recovered at the scene and are working to determine whether any bullets or shell casings recovered do not fit the unique profile of the weapons that were found on the scene. If this is the case, it could indicate that there are additional suspects at large.

One person was killed in the shooting. The slain individual was 43-year-old Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a Kansas City-area radio DJ. Further details regarding her death have not been provided by police.

The news of her passing was announced by her employer, KKFI radio 90.1 FM.

“It is with sincere sadness and an extremely heavy and broken heart that we let our community know that KKFI DJ Lisa Lopez, host of Taste of Tejano lost her life,” the station shared on Facebook

More than half of the over 20 people who were shot were under the age of 16. According to Chief Graves, the victims ages range from 8 to 47 years old.

Of the individuals taken to the hospital, eight patients are now in critical condition, seven are in serious condition, and six have minor injuries.
