Report: Trans Swimmer Lia Thomas Launches Legal Battle In Bid To Qualify For 2024 Olympics

Transgender swimmer Lia Thomas is taking legal action in hopes to join the U.S. Women’s Swim Team for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

According to a report from The Telegraph on Thursday, it was revealed that the 24-year old swimmer hired Canadian law firm, Tyr, to take on the case with the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland.

Thomas’s case comes after the sport’s governing body, World Aquatics, began prohibiting individuals who underwent “any part of male puberty” from competing against biological women back in 2022.

Prior to the rule taking place, trans women were allowed to compete against biological females if they lowered their testosterone levels.

Despite the legal battle, Thomas’s case is unlikely to be heard in time to allow Thomas to qualify for the Olympic trials in June.
