Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) asserted that Israel was committing “war crimes,” referring to the nation’s retaliation against Hamas terrorists’ horrific October 7th attacks and the abduction of hundreds of hostages.

On Sunday, Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), commonly known as AOC, appeared on the Mehdi Hasan Show to express her thoughts and opinions.

During the interview, the left-wing New York representative insisted that she was “not defending Hamas” even though she consistently expressed that Israel was committing “war crimes” in its retaliation against Hamas.

AOC then attempted to defend her position when she called for a truce on the war.

She was asked whether the Jewish State had a right to retaliate against Hamas, and she responded saying “war crimes are not the appropriate response.”

“I think one of the things that’s important to recognize about this situation is the asymmetry of what is going on as well as the collective punishment of what is happening to the Palestinian people at this moment,” AOC said. “Hamas has absolutely engaged in horrific attacks. Every single day there are more details that are released about what occurred on October 7th that shocks the human consciousness and shocks our conscience, our collective conscience.”

“However we do know as well that war crimes do not constitute and are not an appropriate response for other war crimes,” she added. “It is inacceptable to think that 1700 Palestinian children alone, their deaths will somehow make up or justify the violence of what we saw on October 7th.”

The leftist representative continued, accusing Israel of committing an “indiscriminate bombing campaign” against Gaza and all of its people. She also went on to question the strength of the Jewish State’s recent actions.

“It occurs to me, I think a question we all must ask ourselves, what price of innocent life is acceptable in terms of targeting Hamas? And are we even receiving? We are receiving daily counts every day about the number of innocent people that are dying,” AOC continued. “We are not seeing reports on how effective this has actually been in terms of dismantling Hamas. I think it’s very important for us to raise that point. I think it’s important for us to understand that this is part of a larger intergenerational cycle of violence.”

AOC asserted that it is “absolutely not a defense of Hamas” to condemn Israel and stated that the “political aims of violence” of both parties is the “dehumanization” of either side.

She joined other representatives by calling for a “ceasefire” while avoiding questions over whether Israel has a right to retaliate and defend itself following the fatal attacks. The additional representatives include Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Cori Bush (D-Mo.).

As AOC’s interview on the Mehdi Hasan Show concluded, she also recommended that her fellow representatives’ hesitancy to call for a ceasefire is “motivated by race.” She maintained that Palestinian voices have predominantly been reduced in the halls of Congress.

“I have long found the ignoring and sidelining of Palestinians in the U.S. House of Representatives, the humanity of Palestinian populations in the five years that I’ve been in Congress, quite shocking. This is not something that is new to many of us,” AOC said.
