A police chase in Southwest Ohio on Wednesday morning, which involved a stolen semi-truck, turned into a hostage situation.

According to authorities, around 1:00 a.m. London police officers attempted to pull over a vehicle that had no visible registration or rear lights. The man and woman inside the vehicle fled the car on foot to a nearby truck stop.
Officer attempted to use a taser on the man, but he pulled out a gun, which caused the officers to retreat. However, no shots were fired at the time.
According to Ohio State Highway Patrol, the pair then highjacked a semi-truck from the truck stop, taking the truck driver along with them.
The pair led police on a multi-county chase until around 3:30 a.m., driving through Clark, Greene, Madison, and Montgomery counties. The semi-truck then stopped on a Dayton International Airport access road.
Ohio State Highway Patrol Special Response Team, and Montgomery County Sherriff’s Office personnel were on scene to attempt to get the hostage and suspects out of the situation safely.
The standoff ended around 7:30 a.m. local time as authorities approached the semi-truck.
According to Ohio State Highway Patrol, as officers approached the vehicle, one of the suspects opened fire at them, causing them to shoot back, striking both the male and female suspects.
The two suspects were transported to a nearby hospital, where the female suspect died from her injuries, and the male suspect remains in critical condition.
The victim pulled out of the truck suffered minor injuries during the event.
