After two shooting events that appear to be connected resulted in at least four fatalities and three injuries, Maine authorities have detained a person of interest and are carrying out further investigations, according to state police.

Four bodies were discovered inside a home in Bowdoin, Maine, when Maine State Police arrived on the scene, according to State Police Lieutenant Randall Keaten, who spoke at a press conference.

“We’ve got vehicles that have been hit by straight gunfire all across that we’re getting reports on, so if anybody has holes in their vehicles, please contact us so that we can follow up with that,” Keaten said.

Shortly after, the Yarmouth region of I-295, which is about 40 minutes from Bowdoin, was the scene of reports of numerous automobiles being struck by gunfire.

According to state police, three people were shot while driving and sent to the hospital. Authorities noted that at least one of those three had a critical condition on Tuesday.

Regarding the detained person of interest, authorities withheld any details.

The four people who were discovered deceased in the house were not mentioned by the police, nor did they provide any information about a potential motive for the incidents. According to state police, the four remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where autopsies will be performed to determine the manner and cause of death.

Authorities are now requesting contact from anyone who may have seen something or may know something about the incidents on Tuesday morning.
