According to the National Weather Service, a “catastrophic” tornado has passed through the Little Rock, Arkansas, region.
Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R-Ark.) said that “significant damage has occurred in Central Arkansas.”
On Friday afternoon, the National Weather Service declared a tornado emergency for parts of the Little Rock metro region, citing a “damaging tornado” that had passed through the area.
According to National Weather Service data, over 300,000 individuals were nearby and close to the storm.
In the tornado warning, the National Weather Service stated that the storm’s damage threat was “catastrophic,” and that they verified a “large and destructive tornado” had moved through parts of Little Rock.
In a Twitter post, Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr. quickly requested assistance from the National Guard and warned local citizens to stay away from the affected areas.
