The FBI published “secret” documents related to an investigation into former President Donald Trump’s ex-wife, Ivana Trump, on Tuesday.
It was revealed that in February 1989, the bureau had suggested a “preliminary inquiry” into Ivana after receiving information from an anonymous source.
The FBI’s counterintelligence section was involved in the investigation, but it’s unclear what exactly was looked into.
According to Bloomberg News, the FBI is investigating charges concerning her ties to Czechoslovakia, her home country.
Only 190 of the approximate 900 pages of records that the FBI produced in connection with its investigations into Ivana were made public this week, as a result of Bloomberg’s Freedom of Information Act request. According to Bloomberg, more documents from the cache should become available in the following month.
Ivana’s ties to a man in Czechoslovakia who was allegedly involved in arranging fictitious marriages were at least partially the subject of the FBI’s investigation. The man was assumed to be connected to the nation’s spy agency. All of the documents that the FBI disclosed have “blacked-out” names, to hide the identities of those involved.
The records also mentioned Ivana’s alleged June 1990 trip to her own nation, according to the investigators. She allegedly met with the late president of Czechoslovakia, Vaclav Havel, and received an autographed book from him.
Ivana and former President Donald Trump married in 1977 and later divorced in the 1990s. They had three children together, Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric Trump.
Ivana died from a fall last summer at age 73. Her funeral was attended by her ex-husband and the former president, alongside their children and close friends.
