California Governor Gavin Newsom is withholding one billion dollars in funding from cities that are struggling with homelessness.

Reports on Thursday say that Governor Newsom (D-Calif.) had rejected plans from multiple cities to address the state’s rampant homeless population. He describes the “lack of ambition” from the cities as his reasoning.

This swift rejection of local efforts will delay over $43 million to San Diego County alone.

Currently, there are over 160,000 homeless individuals in the Golden State over-half of the total for the U.S.
