Kanye West has ended his brand’s partnership with the clothing-retailer Gap. West has cited irreconcilable differences.

On Thursday, lawyers for West sent a letter to Gap notifying the company that his apparel line was terminating their contract. His legal team said that Gap breached its agreement with Yeezy LLC. West accused Gap of failing to meet contractual obligations by not releasing apparel and opening retail stores as planned.

When on CNBC’s Closing Bell on Thursday, the rapper said that he initially wanted to partner with the company to be able sell clothes that were low in price but high in quality in order to let a variety of people be able to wear the collaboration. In the end, miscommunication and the opposing views for how the collection should be released didn’t match up.

“Sometimes I would talk to the guys, the heads up, the leaders, and it would just be like I was on mute or something,” West said. “Our agenda wasn’t aligned.”

The rapper has repeatedly criticized Gap on social media by asserting that officials at the company copied his designs and cut him out of the creative process. Gap will be able to sell its existing Yeezy-Gap products before dropping the brand name. Kanye West and Gap first announced their partnership in 2020. Kanye has a special connection with the company. Ye worked at a Gap location when he was a teenager in Chicago.
