(Tallahassee, Fla.) The Tampa-area businessman running in the Aug. 23 Republican primary to be the state representative for the state’s 65th District told One America News he wants to give the Sunshine State’s Republican Gov. Ronald D. DeSantis more support in the legislature.

“I would file just about every bill that he’s looking to file here in the state house. Right. I want to go in and I want to ban China from buying land here,” said Jake Hoffman, who is in a contested primary for an open seat.

“I’m not afraid of going out and talking about this stuff on camera and trying to explain our position on it, you know, instead of just getting beat up in the media,” he said. “Ron DeSantis, he needs people in the legislature ready to do that—and I’m ready to do that.”

Hoffman said he expects there to battles over education and restoring parental rights in the next legislative session.

“There’s gonna be a lot of fights about education, right? Governor DeSantis is doing a ton of work to make sure that we have America First type candidates on school boards,” he said.

“We had the very, very controversial parental rights bill, which shouldn’t have been that, but it was anyway,” he said.

“Making sure that we’re not indoctrinating our kids is going to be a huge, huge fight within the state house over the next couple of years,” he said. “Then, you get into some of the boring stuff that, but it’s really important, like flood insurance, property insurance. We’ve got a crisis here in the state of Florida, and we’re gonna tackle that as well.”

Hoffman said as a young conservative, he draws motivation from DeSantis and his leadership style.

“Governor DeSantis inspires me because he has shown that if you come out bold and you speak your mind and you explain to people why you’re doing what you’re doing, and you are a strong conservative, then people will listen and it works right,” the businessman said.

While other Republican leaders step back from confrontations, the governor seeks confrontation, so he can fix problems and effect true reform, he said.

“Governor DeSantis has shown that if you pick the fight, if you do come out, bold, people are going to support you—and they’re not just gonna support you—they’re going to want you to run for president.”
